The Car Nicobar is a class of fast attack crafts being build by Garden Reach shipyard for the Indian Navy to serve as coastal security vessels. These are the first water jet propelled ships commissioned ever by the Indian Navy. They have been designed for interception of fast moving surface crafts in anti-smuggling and fisheries protection operations as well as search and rescue operations where time is of paramount importance. The first two crafts were commissioned at Chennai by the Indian Navy in February 2009 with another eight ships expected to follow as replacement for aging fast attack crafts in active duty. A second batch of four vessels was delivered between 2016 and 2018.

The Car Nicobar fast attack craft's three water jets are coupled with MTU 16V 4000 M90 engines with a combined power of 8,160 KW. Her efficient hull design allows a top speed in excess of 35 knots. The aluminum superstructure of the vessels reduces their Radar Cross Sections (RCS) and also provides improved habitability. A Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants allow for fresh water generation increasing vessel endurance at sea. The armament includes a 30mm CRN-91 gun along with sensors manufactured by Ordnance Factory, Medak. The CRN-91 gun has a maximum rate of fire of 550 rounds per minute and a maximum range of 4,000 meters. Moreover, these ships are equipped with Igla surface-to-air missiles and several types of machine guns.
